Retirement

With sunny weather, a great community of people, and plenty of ways to stay active, it’s no surprise that Las Cruces is continually ranked as one of the “Best Places to Retire in the U.S.” In fact, approximately 20% of the local population is over the age of 60. Here’s a look at the top reasons so many people choose to spend their golden years in Las Cruces.

Ideal Weather

The desert has always been a popular destination for snowbirds. The Mesilla Valley only sees a couple days of snow (if that) per year. With over 300 days of sunshine, it’s not uncommon for locals to continue to enjoy the outdoors all year long. While temperatures may soar in the summer, it’s nothing compared to the triple digits they regularly endure in Phoenix. Plus, anyone from the East Coast or the South can appreciate the almost complete lack of humidity.

Low Cost of Living

Optimized Rtmt3 300daysofSUNAccording to Forbes, the overall cost of living in Las Cruces is 11.3% below the national average, and we’re still coming in below average on housing, utilities, transportation, and health costs.

Want to see how Las Cruces measures up against other cities around the country? Try out the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance’s free online Cost of Living Calculator. Just enter in your current income and where you’re moving from, and the calculator will tell you how much you’ll be saving on groceries, health, housing, and utilities if you move to Las Cruces. It will also calculate how much it will cost to maintain the same standard of living. For example, if you’re living off an income of $50,000 in Los Angeles, California, the comparable income in Las Cruces is just over $35,000.

               Quality Healthcare

Las Cruces boasts an outstanding cadre of quality medical professionals covering a wide range of specialties. The city is also home to two top-notch, full-service hospitals—MountainView Regional Medical Center and Memorial Medical Center—with another one in the works—Las Cruces Regional Medical Center at Park Ridge.
